Town Planning success Barrow in Furness for change of use to Listed Hotel: Townscape Chartered Town Planning and Heritage Consultant have successfully assisted in the approval of change of use and listed building consent for the former Victoria Park Hotel in Barrow in Furness, a grade II building. The Planning approval consisted of change of use to a number of self contained apartments and five new built 2 bed units on the former bowling green and car park.
Dating from 1900 The Victoria Park Hotel was constructed as part of the expanding ‘planned town’ of Barrow in Furness and was widly used for the many travelling merchants and proffessionals who visited the town. With a strong architectural appearance, the hotel itself is one of the oldest hotels in Barrow and is a significant example of arts and crafts influence. The Hotel has a range of architectural fixtures and fittings and all of these original features added to its significance and care required in drawing up plans for conversion. Townscape undertook a full and detailed heritage assessment of the building, justifying the works proposed to the hotel and in developing the proposals for additional housing units on the former bowling green area.
