Townscape Town Planning and Heritage Consultants Ltd were invited by this new client to help bring a subtle upgrade to the Great John Street Hotel in central Manchester. The hotel which is a former school is grade II listed and benefited from a superb conversion a few years ago. However, to improve guests liveability and enjoyment of the hotel a few minor improvements were sought such as secondary double glazing (Manchester is awash with large construction sites creating noise), an external glazed seating area (located on a side street where the wind is tunnelled) and enlargement to the rooftop terrace and canopy (former playground to the school).
Whilst these minor improvements perhaps go unnoticed amongst the raft of gleaming new buildings currently ‘popping’ up in central manchester.
